Between the months of April and June, the Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) team carried out the first diagnoses of good practices of the Seridó milk project, in the municipalities of Serra Negra do Norte and Timbaúba dos Batistas, in Rio Grande do Norte.
The diagnosis is based on the CheckMilk methodology, developed by IBS, which has a platform with a management system and application for the technical teams and the producers served.
As explained by Luís Henrichsen, livestock director at IBS, the CheckMilk system will facilitate the management of the Seridó Project and the application will help producers on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of IBS services.
“The CheckMilk methodology was inspired by the guide to good sustainable milk practices from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Milk Federation (FIL). There are 160 checkpoints in six major areas: milking health and hygiene, animal welfare, socioeconomic issues and environmental issues,” adds Henrichsen.
Based on this diagnosis, an action plan was drawn up for each of the properties that make up the Leite Seridó project, which began to receive monitoring from the Instituto Biosistêmico teams to manage the improvements to be implemented.
About the Seridó Milk Project
Conceived and executed by the Instituto BioSistêmico, the Leite Seridó project has the support of resources from Fundação Zoetis and Sebrae/RN. The initiative seeks to promote the development of dairy farming on a total of 100 properties, with a family farming profile, in the Seridó region, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Northeast region of Brazil.
It proposes a set of activities and resources for technological assistance, structured and modulated into four thematic axes aimed at improving the production process: good practices, reproductive management, nutritional management and health management.
The project uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.
