The Instituto BioSistêmico (IBS) started the Leite Seridó project with the support of resources from the Zoetis Foundation and the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) in the state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Conceived by IBS, the project seeks to promote the development of dairy farming with producers in the Seridó region in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Northeast region of Brazil.

In April, IBS and Sebrae/RN promoted a first meeting to raise awareness among producers, at the Rural Union of Serra Negra do Norte. On the occasion, the IBS director, Luís Henrichsen, and the IBS consultant, Matheus Henrique Magalhães, presented the project, detailing the schedule of services, the technologies and the applied methodology.

“We are very pleased to start another project in partnership with Fundação Zoetis and Sebrae/RN. Our expectation is to promote the qualification of producers in the Seridó region so that they can produce more, with quality and sustainability”, highlights director Luís Henrichsen. The project proposes a set of activities and technological assistance resources, structured and modulated for the development and adjustment of the production process, improvement of quality, health and productivity of milk.

The Vaca Móvel – Cow Mobil (milk quality and animal health) and Rufião Móvel – Ruffian Mobil (reproductive management) units are among the technologies applied. Services are guided around four thematic axes aimed at improving the production process: good practices, reproductive management, nutritional management and health management.

“We use the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and an application for the technical teams and producers,” says consultant Matheus Henrique, responsible for the technical coordination of CheckMilk.

The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.

Goal of 100 properties attend

Initially, the project serves milk producers in the municipalities of Serra Negra do Norte Timbaúba dos Batistas, through the following organizations: Association of Rural Producers of Curral Queimado, Association of Family Farmers of Frutuoso, Council for Community Development Lagoa da Serra and Association of Community Development Pitombeira Serra Negra do Norte.

The goal is to reach 100 properties attend in the Seridó region. The Instituto BioSistético team continues to mobilize producers. With each new member joining the project, a diagnosis of good practices is carried out using the CheckMilk platform, with the issuance of an improvement plan for the property.

During the month of June, the first rounds of reproductive management, nutritional management and health management of the herds were carried out.
