Contributing to the genetic improvement of dairy herds in the Seridó region, in Rio Grande do Norte, is one of the focuses of the Leite Seridó project, carried out by the instituto Biosistêmico (IBS), with support from Zoetis Foundation and Sebrae/RN.
To achieve this objective, reproductive management services play a fundamental role. In the first fortnight of June, IBS carried out the first assistance of the project focused on the reproductive area for the properties located in the municipalities of Timbaúba dos Batistas and Serra Negra.
“In the reproductive management consultations, the veterinarian performs the gynecological evaluation of the animals, pregnancy diagnosis and, when possible, already starts the synchronization of the animals for FTAI”, explains the veterinarian Luiz Sartori, technical coordinator of livestock projects at the IBS in the Northeast region.
He adds that the profile of the public served by the project is small and medium-sized producers who supply milk to some dairy or cheese factory in the region. Many producers did not have access to ultrasound examination for the cows and reproductive technologies, such as FTAI, a reality that became possible with milk Seridó.
According to the veterinarian Fabio Luís Spinelli, who carried out the first round of reproductive management, the receptivity of the producers was excellent and they made a point of following all the details of the images verified in the ultrasound exams.
About the Seridó Milk Project
Conceived and executed by the Instituto BioSistêmico, the Leite Seridó project has the support of resources from Fundação Zoetis and Sebrae/RN. The initiative seeks to promote the development of dairy farming on a total of 100 properties, with a family farming profile, in the Seridó region, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, in the Northeast region of Brazil.
It proposes a set of activities and resources for technological assistance, structured and modulated into four thematic axes aimed at improving the production process: good practices, reproductive management, nutritional management and health management.
The project uses the CheckMilk methodology, which has a platform with a management system and application for technical teams and producers. The system facilitates project management and the application helps the producer on a daily basis, as a support, an extension of the IBS consultancy that can be accessed at any time in the palm of the hand.
